The Space Between Us
DŽAMIJA
'The Space Between Us' is an ongoing land art project. This piece was created as a reflection on the environment, alongside other female artists, during an art school exchange in Zagreb.
This work was inspired situationally at The Meštrović Pavilion, or as it is colloquially know, 'Džamija' (Mosque). Originally built as the Home of Visual Arts, by Ivan Meštrović in 1938, the Croatian pavilion has adapted alongside Europe's turbulent history. The building was later developed into a mosque before World War II and has since been re-purposed.
The word 'Pavilion' structured this artwork. As whispers rang out around the gallery, like a prayer, the space filled. My temporary structure, or land art, interrupted the 'Space' and connected the freestanding.
